Motor Finance Commissions – Supreme Court Ruling:
The FCA welcomed a Supreme Court judgment clarifying that undisclosed dealer commissions on car loans did not automatically constitute “bribes” or unfairness under consumer credit law. The regulator worked through the weekend to analyse the ruling and announce whether a consumer redress scheme is needed. Around 2 million people use motor finance yearly, so the FCA’s swift decision aims to bring certainty and ensure any harmed customers are fairly compensated. Industry relief was palpable since many auto lenders faced a potential £44 billion claims exposure.
