General update

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband says he stands by his pledge to reduce energy bills by £300 by 2030, after bills went up by 2% for millions across the UK under Ofgem's latest price cap. He was quizzed on the Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme this morning. This comes as Chancellor Rachel Reeves has said she is planning "targeted action to deal with cost-of-living challenges" in next month's Budget. The government could intervene to bring down energy bills, for example, by cutting the current 5% rate of VAT charged on energy.
