General update
Since I have been away, we seem to have had a number of government U-turns. The PM has said his welfare reforms strike "the right balance" after making concessions to his own backbench MPs (not for the first time). As part of the U-turn on welfare reforms, ministers are expected to fast-track a £1 billion support plan to get people into work, which was originally scheduled for 2029. However, officials at the DWP said the system was "a mess" and that there were "only a handful of people" working on the programme.
The Bank of England has held interest rates at 4.25%, with inflation still well over the target figure of 2%.
