General update
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published its latest Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which shows the rate of inflation rose to 2.3% in the 12 months to October 2024, up from 1.7% in September 2024.
ONS also announced that private rental prices have risen by 8.7% in the 12 months to October, up from the previous month’s figure of 8.4%. New YouGov polling by StepChange Debt Charity revealed that 53% of private renters are struggling to keep up with bills and credit commitments, while 32% are using credit to afford rent.
