Interest rates held at 5.25%

The Bank of England held interest rates at 5.25% for the fourth time in a row, though the Bank's committee voted 6-3 in favour of holding the rate, with 2 wanting an increase and one wanting a cut.

Twelve-month CPI inflation fell to 4% in December 2023, below expectations in the November 2023 report. The Bank will keep interest rates high for long enough so inflation settles at 2%.
